IMPACT
In Canada in 2025, the demand for food banks has reached unprecedented levels. In March 2024 alone, there were over 2 million visits to food banks, representing a 90 % increase compared to March 2019. Notably, nearly one-fifth (18 %) of food bank clients were employed, the highest proportion ever recorded. Children account for about one-third of all visits. This surge underscores the deepening impact of rising food and housing costs, and the increasing fragility of Canada’s social safety net. Sources BNN, FOOD BANKS Canada
No-one should be subject to the indignity of food shortage in an abundant country. The mental impact directly affects their productivity and limits their ability to make a positivie impact in the lives of their family, career, schooling and community. The numbers are grim but the consicousness is rising. Together we can continue to positively impact those weighted under the burden of food insecurity and the host of problems that impact their daily lives.
